Skylar Nixon is a twenty-seven year old failed actress with no Plan B. After a humiliating stint on a reality TV show crushes what’s left of her childhood dream, she finds herself back in her hometown with no money saved, no college degree, and no confidence she’s anything but a joke—a small town starlet who couldn’t hack it in the big city.
When she runs into former classmate Sebastian Pryce, she can’t believe the hot body and chiseled jaw belong to the shy, troubled loner she knew ten years before. He’s not exactly friendly at first, and she’s heard the rumors about his tragic past, but something in his sad eyes intrigues her. She only wants to get to know him better.
Until the night she wants more—and takes it. (Hard and deep. Twice.)
Are they just two lonely people seeking solace? Or can a disgraced beauty queen and flawed, frustrated man find some sort of happy ever after?
**SOME SORT OF HAPPY is a full-length, dual POV novel, complete with a happy ending.**

MY REVIEW

The world of indie authors is so very rich and diverse and I've read my share, ranging from debut authors to seasoned veterans. And as I navigate the number of reads available, Melanie Harlow's books always stand out among my favorites. She allegedly writes romantic comedy. Yeah, okay her books ARE funny, and I've found myself many times laughing out loud or smiling like a loon into my kindle screen. But beyond the humor, I find that I make a connection to Melanie's stories or characters, most times both, and have an emotional reaction to them. And she did it again with Some Sort of Happy.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. I thought Skylar was spunky and entertaining even as she came to terms with the new direction her life had taken her. She was driven and focused to get her act together and make something of herself. She also, could not have been better matched for Sebastian. She challenged him yet balanced out his broodiness with patience and understanding. Sebastian is a little tougher to love, but in the end I did. It is a daily struggle for him as he battles and navigates life with his mental illness. It was so incredibly hard to watch Sebastian struggle with his mind; I was heartbroken for him and felt completely sympathetic to him and his situation. But for all of his faults, Sebastian is intelligent and aware and he was willing to try and willing to explore a relationship with Skylar.
Overall, Some Sort of Happy had great characters + incredible chemistry x with Melanie's skilled writing = a heartfelt and memorable read full of laughs and swoony romance. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to lots more laughs and sighs with Melanie's books.
